Don’t DIS My ABILITY is about changing misconceptions surrounding disability and creating an environment that encourages participation in careers, leisure pursuits and social activities. Ambassadors are selected as role models to support this campaign from the arts, sports and business.
Don’t DIS my ABILITY has benefited people in the community by raising the public profile of people with a disability, their achievements and diversity and by providing information on community activities for people with a disability.
Don’t DIS my ABILITY key outcomes
Since its conception, the Don’t DIS my ABILITY campaign has provided positive outcomes for people with a disability and the NSW community in general including:
- An increased level of understanding of people with a disability across all sections of the community
- Providing provide positive role models for people with a disability and promote disability awareness in the media through the ambassador program
- Developing on-going activities for participation by people with a disability not just as a one-off event but throughout the whole year
- Providing contacts and networks for people with a disability to assist their participation in the wider community through a program of over 150 events
