Newcastle is marking International Day of People with a Disability by hosting its first fully accessible and free outdoor dance party for disco lovers and people with a disability on Friday 7 December.
Don't DIS the DISCO will see Wheeler Place in the city centre morphed into a huge dance floor complete with top DJs, disco dancing and the funkiest tunes in town.
Revellers can join two free dance workshops guided by professional instructors before unleashing their moves to the groovy sounds of special guest DJ Hollywood Stole My Magic Mullet.
“Don't DIS the Disco promises to be a highlight on Newcastle's clubbing calendar,” said Michael Cohen, Programme Director for Newcastle Live Sites.
“It's the last of this year's hugely popular ‘Dancing in the Streets' series and we expect large numbers of people to overtake Wheeler Place for a memorable night of disco dancing.”
Brendan O'Reilly, Director-General of the Department of Ageing Disability and Home Care (DADHC) added, “The outdoor venue is fully accessible with wheelchair access and facilities. Everybody in the community is welcome to turn up, learn some moves and experience the excitement of dancing under the stars.”
Newcastle Live Sites is organising Don't DIS the DISCO with support from DADHC. The event features in Don't DIS my ABILITY, a campaign celebrating International Day of People with a Disability on 3 December.
