The 'Don't DIS my ABILITY' website has been developed to ensure content is available to the widest possible audience, including readers using assistive technology or accessibility features. These features include:
- Images and graphics carry ALT tags to assist visitors using screen readers and those with images turned off in their internet browsers;
- The users can increase or reduce text size by using
and
icons on the page toolbar; - 'Skip to content' link is placed in the top banner to assist users with adaptive technology to quickly navigate to the content.
- Pages have been designed to be device independent (that is, users can navigate without the need of a mouse).
We welcome any comments or suggestions regarding the accessibility features of this site. If you wish to contribute to this site's improvement, please e-mail us at Dontdis@dadhc.nsw.gov.au.
Access Keys
Access keys function exactly like hot keys in any Microsoft application. They are intended as an accessibility aid for vision impaired users to skip directly to relevant content areas on a page. Internet Explorer (IE) has supported access keys since version 4, Netscape since version 6. Older browsers do not support accesskey functions, but this will not effect the visual delivery of content.
To use the access keys on this Website, Windows users can navigate with the access key feature by typing ALT+Access key followed by Return. Using a Mac, you will need to use CTRL+Access key (not COMMAND+Access key, which can produce undesirable effects).
Please type ALT (or CTRL for the Mac) +:
S = Skip to content
1 = Home
3 = Sitemap
4 = Search (either the input or link)
7 = Contact Us
9 = Feedback
