About us

International Day of People with a Disability (IDPWD) is designated by the United Nations as a time to celebrate and recognise the achievements, contributions and abilities of people with a disability and is celebrated on December 3 each year.

In NSW, International Day of People with a Disability is celebrated throughout November and December with the Don’t DIS my ABILITY campaign, proudly supported by the NSW Government and Ageing, Disability and Home Care, Department of Human Services NSW. Up to 150 events are held throughout metropolitan and regional NSW.

Don’t DIS my ABILITY is about changing misconceptions surrounding disability and creating an environment that encourages participation in careers, leisure pursuits and social activities. Ambassadors are selected as role models to support this campaign from the arts, sports and business arenas.

This year, the United Nations theme for International Day of People with a Disability is "Keeping the promise: Mainstreaming disability in the Millennium Development Goals towards 2015 and beyond", which aims to further ensure the full and effective participation of persons with disability in all aspects of societal life and development.
